Not all mattresses are created equal: The Sealy Difference

When it comes to mattresses, there is a simple phrase that Sealy stands by: Not all mattresses are created equal. Sealy’s unique approach, backed by a dedicated team of engineers, quality control experts, and materials specialists, has earned their products a reputation for excellence. According to Daniel Green, Sealy’s Research and Development Manager, Sealy mattresses are not only distinct but, in his view, superior to anything else on the market today.

This confidence stems from Sealy Posturepedic mattresses built on extensive orthopaedic research, meticulous testing, and decades of accumulated expertise. And that knowledge continues to grow year after year.

“When Sealy Posturepedic first launched, bed frames resembled hammocks,” Daniel explains.

“While that might feel comfortable for a short while, it wasn’t sustainable for long-term use. Sealy’s engineers recognised that the combination of mattresses and foundations available at the time was not supportive or beneficial for sleepers. To address this, they reached out to orthopaedic surgeons, collaborated on research, and together defined the criteria for optimal sleep posture.”

This innovative work began in the 1950s, when Sealy transformed the bedding industry by integrating orthopaedic principles into their designs. They developed a mattress with an interconnected spring system layered with foam and comfort materials to support the ideal posture for restful sleep.

“It may seem obvious now,” Daniel adds, “but back then, Sealy’s Posturepedic mattress revolutionised bedding. They scientifically figured out how to give people a great night’s sleep — and they were the first to do it.”

Sealy’s legacy of innovation continues to set them apart, ensuring sleepers everywhere benefit from decades of expertise and cutting-edge design.

We prioritise significant investments in innovation and research. Why? Because we have recognised that consumers are unique, with needs that don’t align with global standards developed years ago in Europe or the U.S.

"We reject the concept of ‘one-size-fits-all.’ Instead, we focus on designing optimal bed systems tailored to provide maximum flexibility and support. Our mission is clear: to create the world’s best sleep system. And we have the tools, resources, and state-of-the-art labs to achieve it.We deliver solutions designed from the ground up to meet the unique demands of our market.
